Man dies in accident during night travel

The Federal Highway Basic safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 1 individual died in a head-on collision in between two vehicles which occurred along Onitsha-Nteje Expressway in Anambra on Saturday.

Mr Andrew Kumapayi, the Sector Commander of FRSC in Anambra, who confirmed the incident in Awka, said the entire body of the deceased, a man, experienced been deposited at Knowledge Funeral Mortuary, Nteje.

Kumapayi said the incident which occurred at about 2 a.m. could be attributed to dashing and wrongful overtaking.

“The fatal crash involved a Lexus SUV with registration variety GGE339FU, whose driver dropped his life in the crash and a Mercedes Benz 911 with registration variety XA588ENU.

“The driver of the Lexus SUV experimented with overtaking but sadly experienced a head-on collision with the Mercedes Benz 911, which was unable to give way.

“The dead target has been taken to Knowledge Funeral Mortuary Nteje whilst officers of the FRSC and Nigerian Police Pressure are on the ground controlling targeted traffic and clearing of obstruction triggered by the crash,’’ he said.

Kumapayi said the vehicles experienced been towed to the police station for more investigation.

The Sector Commander recommended street users and motorists to adhere to the government’s directives prohibiting night travels from eight p.m. to 6 a.m, specifically through the time period of COVID-19 pandemic.

According to him, folks ought to shun night travels because the possibilities of having help in the night are less than through the day.
