Initial matters to start with: I recorded the video clip footage on April 12, 2020. Donning masks in general public was not yet advised by the authorities.
It was only
five days into the “circuit breaker” in Singapore. At that place, the problem
wasn’t surprising – yet wholly unparalleled: Operate from property, consume at property,
have (electronic) conversations from property, unwind at home…whatever you do, just
stay at property! How would I deal with this in the months, or even months, to come?
Luckily,
we’re allowed to exercising outside and go for walks. So, I did accurately that on
the to start with Sunday. I took my thoughts and my GoPro on a stroll via the empty
streets of Singapore’s Chinatown and CBD. Ridiculous! I have never ever noticed this city
like that. Usually packed with hundreds of individuals, visitors from all all over the
entire world, buyers, shop entrepreneurs providing food stuff, tea, gadgets or souvenirs when
shouting and enjoying a cacophony of way-way too-loud new music, and now…Nothing.
No one. Peaceful.
I stuffed
the serene emptiness with my thoughts.
What if
this is not just a phase? What if we bought thrown off the treadmill as we tried out to
operate speedier than we could? What if we will need to rethink our practices and our
existence forever? What requirements to change – what do I will need to
change? So, I questioned and wandered,
researching my unreeling reflections.
I’m a
die-difficult optimist. That doesn’t mean I dismiss the blazing fires all over me, it
signifies that I retain wanting for the fireplace hose. I feel that we will come to be
stronger and, hopefully, more resourceful via this time. The world required
the sluggish- down, and so did we – and so did I.
There are
matters that I dearly overlook. There are matters that I have to sacrifice, possibly,
forever. That is not simple but it may possibly be for the superior. It involves
adaptation and creativeness. And as every single journey has it, it commences with the
to start with move. For me, it was that Sunday stroll via the empty streets of
Singapore. It gave me the space and time to study the recent entire world, and how
I can add to impact it positively.
I created this
video clip to capture this unique time and my reflections, and to share it with my
buddies and spouse and children who, I knew, I wouldn’t be ready to see for a when.
Keeping at property is a value to pay…but I feel like I can make it worth it.
