Thrust Carbon wins Grand Prize and People’s Choice award at WiT Startup Pitch signalling industry intent on sustainability

THRUST Carbon has emerged victorious in this year’s WiT Startup Pitch after beating two other finalists to come out tops in the Grand Finals, held yesterday at WiT Experience Singapore 2021, the first travel conference in Asia Pacific to return to a full in-person and hybrid format.

Thrust Carbon was also the people’s choice, reflecting a moment in our collective awareness of the need for travel to return more sustainably.

Beating out
two other startups Thrust Carbon swayed the judges with the promise of
providing detailed emissions insights to facilitate green transitions for its
clients.

The other two finalists were Indie, a platform for tour guides to sell their products at scale and RunGo, a voice guided running app that helps travellers explore new cities by walking or running.

WiT founder Yeoh Siew Hoon said, “This is the second year that both the people’s choice and judges vote have converged on one startup. It again seems to be a strong signal of sentiment, this time round, of the hot topic of sustainability.

“Last year’s winner was Dream Drive, which played to the industry’s belief that road trips would herald recovery, which happened, and the choice of Thrust Carbon can be seen as yet another industry bet on what will be important in the coming years.”

As the WiT Startup of the Year, Thrust Carbon will have the opportunity to present in person during the Spotlight session at The Phocuswright Conference in Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Florida from November 15-17.

The WiT Startup Pitch 2021, is held in partnership with AWS, which will provide up to a quarter of a million US dollars in AWS credits and technical support through the AWS Activate program. This is the fourth year that AWS is partnering WiT on the Startup Pitch.
